Summary

This khanda starts with Adishakti devi describing gaNapati tattva to three mahAshakti s: mahAkAlI, mahAlakshmI, mahAsarasvatI. She starts telling them story of kAmAsura, his origin and what he did. He conquered triloka with his power. mudgala RRiShi advised everyone to worship mayUresha and asked them to meet RRiShi bhrUshuMDi .

bhrUshuMDi provided an elaborate description of mayUresha kShetra which is considered to be bhU svAnandaloka . There is an important tradition of dvArayAtrA. He described the placement and locations of objects there. The kShetra is present in daNDakAraNya because daNDakAraNya did gaNesha upasana and asked gaNapati to stay in him. yatrA is also done from grabhagRRiha. The person who dies in mayUresha kShetra attains svAnanda loka. There are several dependencies of pApa and its prAyashchit with yAtrA. RRiShi described several tIrtha. The story of origin of tIrtha from brahmkamaNDalu and some information other tIrtha.

bhrUshuMDi ended this elaborate description and devatas did upAsanA at mayUresha kShetra. I believe, this was description was something unusual. Its phalashruti was also huge. Then, pArvatI separately did upAsanA and asked gaNapati to take avatAra as her chlid. After some time, gaNapati did so, he was named as guNesha. He was quite naughty as a child. There of description of several mischeif created by him. He killed several asura in his childhood. Meanwhile, brahmA s daughters buddhi and siddhi had done enough tapasyA and were good match for marriage with guNesha. guNesha on his way to meet siddhi buddhi, calmed kAmAsura and relieved devatas.

vikaTa rUpa is also considered to be related to sUrya. aruNa was son of aditi and was great devotee of sUrya. sUrya explained him that he is not the highest power and gaNapati is the ultimate power and everyone should worship him.
Accordingly, aruNa does gaNesha upAsanA, gaNesha appears infornt of him, but aruNa is lIna in his upAsanA and does not notice gaNapati. Thus, gaNapati presents himself as sUrya and then aruNa notices him. aruNa realizes that sUrya and gaNapati are same entity, and establishes the bhAnuvinAyaka mUrti.

Realized the vikaTacharitra, mahAshakti trio visits mayUresha kShetra and did stUti of mayUresha.

This khaNDa, was highly dominated by the mayuresha kshetra varnana (almost 60-70%). The rest was descrbing the relation of surya and ganapati (specifically vikata). The map of mayuresh devasthana is given in the archive copy of this purana. It is currently known as moreshwara in marathi. A warning to people visiting moreshwara temple: Do not do any nonsense there. Be contentrated on bhakti there, that place is not something usual. Any mischeif may cause you immense pain for several births.
